The following brother whose name is “Bruce” is a Baptist, fifty-eight years old, married with one son, eight years old, who believes in the Word of God, the Bible, the only pure, unadulterated, inspired English translation, being the authorized 1611 King James Version of Holy Scripture. Following is his response to the Resolution on the 2nd Amendment that was passed by those present at the Unregistered Baptist Fellowship Meeting in Cleveland, Texas on Feb. 18-19. As long as there is no personal attack on the character of this Christian brother, TOL will publish, what we consider the best rebuttal in the same amount of words that he has used, which is exactly 1200 words, not counting salutation and closing. Of course we aren’t a stickler if you go over or under a few words.

Greetings Brother Dixon,
Hope and pray all is well with you and yours, and with all the saints therein where you do gathering !
Just wanted to share with you what it is I see in Holy Script apropos to “weapons”, given what you had written, and suggested in the article “Resolution on the Second Amendment”. You quoted Luke 22: 35-36,, but as it is common with those who use this verse to support the idea of “gun ownership” and a Christian’s right to defend themselves with, “deadly” force, that is, the firing of a piece of metal (bullet) into the flesh of another, taking their life, and quite possibly, if their not saved, casting them into the very flames of hell…Hello !
What is true about the idea of Christians arming themselves , is that it is a conforming to this world, a manner of dress, likeness, a worldly Mindset or thinking, an adopting to the “ways of this present evil world” taking on the appearance of those who are “lost” My thinking, my understanding of the New Testament walk with Christ, is one having a different dress, a “New look, a walk in the likeness of our Master, our Savior Christ Jesus, who had NOT the weapons of this world, Every one who uses those verses in Luke 22, overlooks one word, the one word response from the LORD’S disciples, when He asked, v.35 “lack ye any thing”, their response, one word, “NOTHING” ! We don’t hear from the lips of those early followers of Christ Jesus, and I will paraphrase, “LORD, we could have used some weapons, perhaps you could have sent us with a sword, or knives, bow & arrow, and a spear or two”. Nope, that is not the response those saints gave, when asked, “lack ye any thing’,,, they confessed that they lacked “NOTHING”,v.35, that they had everything they needed,, that all their needs where meet, as they went, in obedience, when they where sent into the world, to proclaim the good news of Christ’s gospel, in HIS name, !
Verse 36, “But now”, is the phrase most and or all, the Christian gun ownership advocates cleave to, along with “ and buy one”, however, what is true about these, is that they are found only once in the NT !, Also, we must consider something else here, why do these Christian gun advocates stop at verse 36 to sell their dogma doctrine, when there are other verses to follow? The message in this chapter 22 of Luke is NOT about gun ownership, or carrying a weapon, or the Christian’s right to bare arms in defense of themselves. Why do the gun advocate / self defense Christian not acknowledge , what LORD Jesus says about swords which we find in verse 38 of chapter 22 in LUKE ? Verse 38. “And they said, (his disciples), Lord, behold, here are two swords, And he (Lord Jesus) said unto them (all), “IT IS ENOUGH.” Let me just make a point here before continuing, that is, How many of the gun ownership Christians do you think “meditate” on God’s Word, ( Joshua 1:8 / Ps. 1:2 / Ps. 77:12 / PS 119:15,23,48,148 / 1 Tim.4:15 ) Why meditate, think upon, consider what is read in and taken in of God’s Word, why does God want us to meditate on His Word, “day & night” ? Ps. 119:18, that we may behold wondrous things out of God’s Law/word, that we may have our understanding opened to ALL that Jesus said, John 14:26.
So what is the point you ask, glad you asked, and it is, something else in LUKE 22 is not being considered when the gun advocate Christians, use verses 35-36, to defend their position of self defense rights. Jesus was about to leave them, be taken from them, and in fact the same is seen in Chapter 22, just a few verses away from 38, “Lord here are two swords” & “it is enough”. Enough because Jesus who is God, knew Judas was coming with his gang, knew there would be a kiss, knew there would be a welding of the sword, cutting off an ear, (and that is why Jesus said, “it is enough”). Jesus allowed Peter, to hack off the High Priest servants ear, so that they who were there, his disciples, Judas and his gang, and on lookers could see Jesus “Heal”, the servant’s ear, as a testimony against them (HIS Defense), to his work, and glorifying of God. Also, we must consider the other record of this very event, found in Matthew 26: and in verses 51-52; v.51 “And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus (Peter, John 18), stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, (defense mode), and struck a servant of the high priest’s, and smote off his ear,’ v.52 “Then said Jesus unto him (response to Peter’s actions taken), Put up again thy sword (weapon) into his place: for all they ( ALL), that take the sword (weapon) shall perish with the sword.” There is a perishing resulting for ALL who will use a weapon against another ….HELLO!
There is also, Ehpesians, 6, where we find the Christian’s armor given, and it says in verse 11, “Put on the “whole” armor of God,” which is our battle array, and what we do not find listed, is any kind of weapon found in the world, NONE. There also we see the only “sword” mentioned, verse 17, is “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.”
Then lastly dear brother, we find these sobering words given To brother Paul to write, in the book of Romans, chapter 12, v.1 ” I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” v 2. “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your minds., that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
Closing, Christians are to be separated from the ways of the world, not isolated, but rather insulated with the word of Truth (John 17:17), sanctified, set apart from the ways of the lost in this world. We are not to be so ready as to weld the weapons of this world against another, but rather ready to give a reason for the joy that is in us, welding rather the sword of the spirit, which is the Word of God. Christians aught not to take on the appearance of evil, to look like the world, as one “pastor” as chosen, (www.clashdaily.com) who with a cigar sticking out of his mouth, dark sunglass over his eyes, and a 44 magnum pointing out of his hand, looks more like a disciple of “Dirty Harry”, ..than a Disciple of Christ Jesus ?
Again, I’m just sharing what God is allowing me to see ! And if I don’t’ stop and cut it short here…., you’d be reading a book !
Look forward to hearing from you again soon,
