JAMES RALPH GROVE
James Ralph Grove, 66, went home to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Thursday, January 03, 2013, at Pinnacle Health Hospital in Harrisburg after a long illness. He was the beloved pastor of Heritage Baptist Church in Loganville, PA. He leaves his beloved wife, Pearl (Bosley), after recently celebrating their 44th wedding anniversary. Jim was born in York Hospital in 1946, lived in Parkton, MD, and graduated from Hereford High School in 1964. He worked at Westinghouse in Hunt Valley, MD. He was born again in Christ in 1972 and answered the call to be a preacher. He graduated from Baptist Bible College in Springfield, MO and founded the Soul’s Haven Baptist Church in Seven Valleys, PA in the early 80’s. He later founded Heritage Baptist Church in Loganville, PA.
Pastor Grove had a heart for public ministry, and was well-known in the city of York and surrounding towns for bringing the Word of God and the gospel of Jesus Christ to people in the public square. He was a popular speaker at the Unregistered Baptist Fellowship meetings throughout the country, and traveled to England with a fellowship of street preachers. For several years, he had a program on public access television, “Call the Preacher,” during which he answered questions from viewers, giving Biblical answers and advice.
He enjoyed old-time hymns, bluegrass gospel, cooking, fishing, and his dogs, but he liked nothing better than to preach the Word of God and the gospel of Jesus Christ.
He struggled with serious health problems for many years, culminating in a kidney transplant in August 2012. Although the transplant itself was successful, secondary complications caused his health to become too fragile to withstand the challenges of recovery.
Funeral services will be held at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary at 24 N. 2nd Street, New Freedom, PA,on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 7PM. Pastor Paul Zander of Heritage Baptist will officiate. There will be no visitation, but all are invited to attend the funeral service. There will be a private family burial. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mrs. Pearl Grove, 6667 Reynolds Mill Rd, Seven Valleys, PA 17360 to defray funeral costs.
Jim leaves his son Jonathan, two young grandsons, Noah and Nolan, and nephew Bruce. He was preceded in death by his brother Kenneth, who was killed in the Vietnam War, and his parents J. Pearce and Hilda Grove.
